SOMETIMES THE THING YOU WANT TO CHANGE DOESN’T FIT NEATLY INTO A BOX
People seek hypnosis for many different reasons. Sometimes it’s a familiar problem such as anxiety, stress or an unwanted habit. Other times, it’s simply the feeling that something is holding you back – even when you can’t quite explain why.
Hypnosis can provide an opportunity to explore the thoughts, associations and automatic patterns connected with what you’re experiencing – and discover different ways of responding.

NOT EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO CHANGE HAS A LABEL
Hypnosis for personal change can take many different forms. Sometimes you know exactly what you want to change. Other times, you simply know that something isn’t working the way you’d like it to.
Perhaps there’s a habit you keep repeating, something you continually put off, a situation that affects your confidence or an automatic response you don’t fully understand.
You may even find yourself thinking:
“I know this doesn’t make sense… so why do I keep doing it?”
That’s often where exploring the pattern becomes more useful than simply trying harder to change it.
Hypnosis for personal change can provide an opportunity to slow things down, become curious about what may be happening beneath an automatic response and begin exploring different possibilities.
You don’t necessarily need a label for what you’re experiencing.
Sometimes you simply need to know what you’d like to be different.
OTHER AREAS PEOPLE EXPLORE WITH HYPNOSIS
People use hypnosis for many different reasons. Some want to change a specific habit. Others want to feel differently in a particular situation, strengthen an inner resource or stop repeating a pattern that no longer serves them.
Here are some other areas we may be able to explore together:
PROCRASTINATION & GETTING STARTED
When you know exactly what needs to be done but continually find yourself putting it off, hypnosis can help explore the patterns behind avoidance and support a different relationship with taking action.
MOTIVATION & FOCUS
Sometimes the issue isn’t knowing what you want — it’s maintaining the focus and motivation to follow through. Hypnosis may help strengthen attention, intention and the mental associations connected with your goals.
SELF-ESTEEM & SELF-BELIEF
The way you see yourself can influence what you attempt, what you accept and what you believe is possible. Hypnosis can provide a space to explore limiting self-perceptions and strengthen more supportive ways of relating to yourself.
UNWANTED HABITS & AUTOMATIC BEHAVIOURS
Nail biting, skin picking and other repetitive habits can sometimes happen before you’re even consciously aware of them. Hypnosis may help you become more aware of triggers and practise alternative responses.
FEAR OF NEEDLES & MEDICAL PROCEDURES
For some people, injections, blood tests, dental work or medical procedures can trigger a strong automatic fear response. Hypnosis may be used to support greater calm and a different response to those situations.
PERFORMANCE & MENTAL PREPARATION
Whether it’s sport, an important presentation, an examination or another high-pressure situation, hypnosis can be used alongside mental rehearsal to support focus, confidence and composure.
And this list is by no means exhaustive.
If there’s something you’d like to change and you’re wondering whether hypnosis may be able to help, sometimes the simplest place to begin is with a conversation.
DIFFERENT PROBLEMS. SIMILAR PATTERNS
Hypnosis is used in a range of therapeutic settings and is generally experienced as a state of focused attention and relaxation. If you’d like to learn more about hypnosis and hypnotherapy from an independent health resource, you can read more at Better Health Channel.
On the surface, procrastination can look very different from low self-belief. A fear of needles seems unrelated to nail biting. And difficulty staying focused may appear to have little in common with performance anxiety.
But beneath the surface, there can sometimes be something similar happening.
A thought triggers a feeling.
A situation triggers an automatic response.
A familiar behaviour happens before you’ve consciously decided what you want to do.
And the more often that pattern is repeated, the more familiar it can become.
That’s one reason hypnosis can be useful across such a wide range of challenges.
We’re not simply focusing on the label attached to the problem.
We’re becoming curious about the pattern underneath it – and exploring what might become possible when you learn to respond differently.
START WITH WHAT YOU WANT TO CHANGE
You don’t need to understand why a pattern exists before beginning hypnosis.
And you don’t need to arrive with the perfect explanation for what’s happening.
We can start somewhere much simpler:
What would you like to be different?
From there, we can explore when the pattern happens, what seems to trigger it, how you experience it and what you would prefer to think, feel or do instead.
Sometimes that exploration reveals connections you hadn’t consciously recognised before.
Other times, the pattern itself is relatively straightforward.
Either way, the process is shaped around you, rather than trying to fit your experience into a predetermined formula.
Because the starting point for change isn’t always understanding everything about the past.
Sometimes it’s becoming clear about what you want to experience differently from here.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A SESSION
Your session begins with a conversation about what you’d like to change and how the issue currently shows up in your life.
We’ll explore the situations that tend to trigger the pattern, what happens internally when it appears and, importantly, how you would prefer to respond instead.
During hypnosis, you’ll be guided into a focused and relaxed state where we can begin working with some of those familiar thoughts, associations and automatic responses.
Depending on what you’re experiencing, that might involve mental rehearsal, strengthening inner resources, exploring different perspectives or practising new ways of responding to familiar situations.
There is no one-size-fits-all script.
The session is shaped around you, the change you want to create and the resources you already have within you.
You remain aware and in control throughout the process.
My role isn’t to give you the answers. It’s to help you access more of your own.
WONDERING IF HYPNOSIS COULD HELP YOU?
You don’t need to fit neatly into a particular category to explore hypnosis.
Perhaps there’s a habit you’d like to change, a response you’d like to understand or simply an area of your life where you know something could be different.
You don’t need to have all the answers before we talk.
That’s what the conversation is for.
